Does your site get traffic from AI search engines?
You could be losing traffic even if your rankings haven’t dropped.
Hello, my friend!
Hope you’re doing great!
I just got back to Canada 🇨🇦 after a trip to Europe, and things are busier over here. I’m juggling a bunch of things right now, like:
✨ Client SEO projects
🔧 My website technical revamp
📝 Writing fresh SEO content for my own site
🤝 Partnering with brands
...and a whole lot more!
P.S. My AI marketing tools post is becoming my second-best money-making article on my website.
It seems everything that has the word “AI” in it grabs people's attention. 😄
Oh, and quick SEO update for you.⚡
Have you heard the buzz about a new SEO term? It’s called “The Great Decoupling” 😬
If you haven’t — don’t worry, you’re not the only one!
It basically describes a weird trend where your site’s impressions (views) and clicks start drifting apart 📉📈 — all because AI overviews are stealing traffic before users even reach your site.
Martin Splitt from Google shared this at Search Central Live 2025, and showed what this actually looks like: 👀👇

Why does it matter?
Because AI overviews might be stealing your traffic, but you don’t even know about it.
And if you don’t know where to start tackling this issue, I suggest starting by checking your website's performance in AI search engines.
How do you check your website's performance in AI search engines?
If you’re not sure whether your target keywords show up in AI Overviews, it’s something you’ll want to check ASAP. You could be losing traffic even if your rankings haven’t dropped.
I usually turn to Semrush for keyword research because it has one of the largest keyword databases — over 26.7 billion keywords.
With the Keyword Overview tool, you can quickly see what the search results page looks like for any keyword, including whether there’s an AI Overview at the top.

Additionally, Semrush’s AI Toolkit can help you analyze what AI platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity say about your brand.
In my case, 2.4% of AI-generated search results mention my brand (could be better), where 95.5% of AI answers mention my brand positively (that’s obviously a good thing).
Semrush also provides some actionable advice on how to improve these numbers, but I honestly haven’t implemented any yet.
Since my website’s performance improves over time, I assume that my SEO strategy works. So, I’ll likely double down on it. (If you’re curious how I do it, I share everything I’ve learned in my SEO ebook.)

Besides, there’s an AI traffic dashboard where you can track the percentage share of the AI-generated traffic to your website.
It pretty much shows the same information as Google Analytics, but the advantage is that you can check it for any website.

But now I’m curious about you: Do you track how your website performs in AI search results?
If you’ve been thinking about trying Semrush Pro, here’s a little perk:
My partner link gives you a 14-day free trial to Semrush Pro instead of the usual 7 days.
Just a small way to get more time to explore and see if it’s a good fit! 😊
AI, SEO, and What the Experts Think—Live at Semrush Spotlight
Every time I open LinkedIn, my feed is full of posts about how AI is “killing” SEO. 😱
People love creating buzz because buzz gets attention. And once you’ve got the eyeballs, it’s easier to get clicks, leads, or whatever else you’re chasing. 👀💸
But instead of stressing over what strangers say, why not learn from people who’ve actually done the work and been in SEO for years? 🤔
Semrush is hosting a Spotlight Conference in Amsterdam this October! 🇳🇱✨
As an SEO and content creator, I’m curious how AI will shape search and how we can stay ahead. 🚀
