December 2024: Monthly Recap 📈

Sharing monthly performance updates.

Happy New Year, my friend! 🎉

I hope 2025 brings you everything you’ve been dreaming about! 🌟

I just wrapped up reflecting on December, and I’m excited to share my highlights with you in this newsletter.

The biggest one?

Taking a full month off from client work!

No meetings, no projects — just pure downtime. Honestly, it felt so refreshing.

While my friends were busy with their 9–5 jobs, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for choosing this path of being my own boss.

It’s my life, my rules. Period. 💁‍♀️

Here’s a quick rundown of what I tackled in December:

  • 📝 Prepped for tax season (oh, the joys of adulting)
💰 Calculated profits from client work and side hustles
📖 Published sponsored content on Medium
✍️ Delivered my first article for the beehiiv blog (coming soon…)
📈 Brainstormed ideas to scale my online biz
💻 Tried to show up online more (it’s a work in progress)

And on the fun side:

  • 🏙️ Explored Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge in Ontario
🍪 Baked Christmas cookies with my husband for our neighbors
🎄 Spent Christmas Day wandering around Toronto
🎆 Celebrated the New Year with friends in Toronto

What about you? How did you wrap up 2024? 🥳

Let me pull back the curtain and share some of the behind-the-scenes moments of my solopreneur journey in December.

I made $616.63 from just 2 Medium articles

Two out of the three articles I published on Medium in December earned me $616.63—and they’re free to read for my readers!

In total, I made $771 on Medium in December. 🎉

So, if anyone tells you it’s impossible to make money writing on Medium these days, they’re totally wrong! 🙅‍♀️

Here’s the math:

📖 I published 51 posts on Medium in 2024.
💰 I earned $5,779.68 in total.
📊 That’s an average of $113.33 per article (~1,000+ words) or $0.11 per word.

Not bad, right? 😏

If you’re thinking about making money writing in 2025, I’ve got you covered!

My website’s organic traffic doubled after Google’s December spam update

Google rolled out seven algorithm updates in 2024. 😅

It’s super stressful for site owners since every update usually means ranking volatility.

But in December, my site didn’t just survive—it thrived!

The spam update gave my website a major traffic boost, which means I was probably doing SEO right.

Here’s a screenshot from my Google Search Console —you can see impressions and clicks doubled! 📊

This blog post has even outranked industry giants like Backlinko and HubSpot, climbing to the top 3 spots for multiple keywords.

It’s now pulling in over 5k visits every month, according to Ahrefs.

Curious how I did it? 🤔

I break it all down in my ebook: How to Hit the Google Front Page.

The 4th ebook of my SEO ebook with 110 pages includes:

  • A case study on how my content outranked industry giants and ranked in the top 3 for multiple keywords

  • A case study on what I do when my website rankings drop

  • A step-by-step guide to finding, analyzing, and prioritizing primary & secondary keywords

  • How to create a solid content writing plan

  • How to craft SEO-friendly outlines

  • My best writing tips to make sure your content meets Google’s expectations

  • And more!

For a better experience, I recommend downloading the PDF ebook and reading it on your desktop. The ebook contains graphs and charts that may be difficult to view on mobile devices.

This is an actionable guide. So, I recommend implementing what you have learned on your website.

The ebook isn't compatible with Amazon Kindle yet.

Partnerships with brands

This wasn’t something I had planned for this year, but it kind of happened on its own — maybe a little nudge from the universe to pay closer attention to this path. 😅

Aside from running my client business (which, to be honest, has been a bit of a rollercoaster this year🎢), I got the chance to collaborate with two incredible and well-known brands:

Fiverr

Fiverr is a global marketplace for freelance services.

Their team reached out to me about a partnership, and now I help spread the word about Fiverr Pro, their premium freelance services that connect businesses with top-notch, verified experts.

Honestly, this collaboration excites me way more than my client work, and I can’t wait to keep it going this year. 🤩

beehiiv

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know I talk about beehiiv a lot — and for a good reason.

beehiiv is a fast-growing platform for content creators to grow and monetize their newsletters.

My first article with some exclusive insights on Medium and SEO will be live on the beehiiv blog soon! 🤩

I don’t know about you, but working with brands has really changed how I see my online business.

Here’s a big realization I had — let me know if you’ve thought about it too:

Clients reach out for a service they could get from anyone. But brands reach out because they specifically want to work with YOU!

They want to connect with your audience through your expertise, and they’re willing to give you the creative freedom to make it happen in the best way possible.

Can you see the difference?

It’s huge!

Even though I have great relationships with my clients who truly value my expertise and share my beliefs, I know I’ll need to find a way to be less “busy” in 2025.

That’ll probably mean saying “no” to a lot of opportunities.

Have a great weekend!

Victoria
